NEW 2006 Share Issue
Launched in May 2006 this latest share issue is to fund the costs
involved in re-opening a regular steam link between Whitby and Grosmont.
Over the last third of a century the railway has developed to become one of Britain’s best loved tourist attractions – carrying more passengers than any other heritage railway. But now we have a chance to realise a dream that our founding fathers could not have envisaged possible – to re-create George Stephenson’s railway by linking the towns of Whitby and Pickering once again with a regular service of steam hauled trains.
To help this happen we are giving you the opportunity to invest in this
exciting project, by buying shares in the Railway.
Originally launched in 1990 and re-launched in 1998, the purpose of the Share Issue is to help finance and thereby facilitate a number of specific projects, which the Director’s believe will develop and bring improvements to the Railway. The following works are looking to be facilitated:
- The John Bellwood Project at Grosmont to provide a Fabrication Shed, Storage Compounds, a Wheel Lathe, a Traverser and Education/Training facilities
- Building a North Eastern style water tower at Pickering
- A passing loop at Newton Dale
With your help, the project has already enabled the re-instatement of the coal drops and Camping Coach, the restoration of the Goods Warehouse and the new Cattle Dock at Goathland Station
