NORTH YORK MOORS RAILWAY
Artist In Residence

Christopher Ware is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s official artist in residence artist – the first such professional post in the country. From his open studio at Levisham station in the heart of the North York Moors he produces pictures that have sold around the world. He is to be found welcoming visitors to his studio and raising funds for the railway whenever the trains are running – and often when they are not.

A watercolour specialist, he is best known for his railway paintings as well as his atmospheric land- and sea-scapes of the country he loves. Visitors to Levisham Station like to discuss painting with him, and purchase prints and original watercolours of some of his locomotive – subjects which pass just a few feet from where he works. The station is an increasing mecca for artists who Christopher is happy to advise on good locations or teach.

Although Christopher has loyal customers from around the world, the only places where his pictures are available are at his studio which can be reached by train or road, through NYMR shops, or from his website www.warehouseart.com. Many of his pictures raise funds for the railway and its rolling stock.

Chris Ware

“I paint this railway and its surroundings because I love it, and want others to share that pleasure. I’m blessed to live and work in a uniquely beautiful part of the world, alongside a really wonderful railway. I’m here to help others experience that too,” said Christopher.
